(ISN akh) – Since the Internet Schweinebörse Nordwest AG (Northwest German internet pig market) was started, more than 40,000 pigs were auctioned off via the internet.
Mr Bernhard Bonekamp, chairman of the Internet Schweinebörse Nordwest AG, confirmed to the press that the interest in this way of marketing pigs has strongly increased. Despite a line disturbance that occurred to the German Telekom lines during the auction, 370 pigs from German farms were auctioned off on Wednesday, July 31, 2002. They went off in three lots at an average price of 1.37 Euros per kg slaughter weight. The margin was from 1.37 Euros to 1.38 Euros. Delivery was ordered for the beginning of calendar week 32, 2002, through the trade, at a fixed basic price.
According to Mr Bonekamp, the ISN members welcomed very much the opportunity given by the Internet Schweinebörse Nordwest AG to market their pigs through a trial offer, allowing them to auction off their pigs without having to pay a fee for it. With this trial offer, new impetus had been given for future trade. Mr Bonekamp emphasised that it had been helpful to demonstrate the obvious advantages of the internet pig market.
Due to the fact that farmers and pig dealers who themselves do not trade online would take the internet pig market as a price indicator for future business, the Internet Schweinebörse noted that many new entries were registered during the past few weeks. To all members who are listed in the register, a newsletter giving the current prices is sent by e-mail after every auction.
