EU Pig Prices: Unchanged Again

09-01-09Eng

The European pigs-mature-for-slaughter market appears unchanged again for the most part this week. This is said to be motivated by the nice weather and the related good sales of barbecue meat. Caused by the exchange rate, the corrected price went down a little in Great Britain. In Spain as well, the prices show a slightly downward trend. The French pig prices even went up a bit. During the month of August, the French quotation fell by a corrected 2 cents, but at the end of the month, France was back to the price level displayed at the beginning of August.

Again, the prices in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium and Austria remained unchanged as they have throughout August. In the course of the month of August, the Swedish price improved by a corrected 6 cents. The price went down by an overall 9 cents (corrected) in Great Britain and even 17 cents in Spain in August.

Trend: Live pigs are still sold well towards Eastern Europe. This adds to relieving the challenging domestic market. The quantities of pigs mature for slaughter on offer are continuing to be marketed smoothly to the slaughter companies.
