This week, the European pigs-mature-for-slaughter market shows an inconsistent trend. While the price went down in Sweden, the Dutch and Great British quotations went up. The quotations in Spain, Germany, Denmark, Belgium and Austria remained on an unchanged level.
The Swedish price decrease makes Sweden play the role of the new taillight in Europe. In the Netherlands, the quotation went up to reach the pre-Christmas level again. In week 51 / 2009 still, the Dutch price had fallen by 3 cents. The German quotation, however, remained unchanged, so the distance has reduced now. In Germany, the unchanged pig price is mostly attributed to the winterly weather conditions as well as to the of the pig feeders’ slightly reduced readiness for release related to it. Furthermore, with the road conditions being difficult at the time being, pig transports are made harder.
Trend: This week, the situation of supply and demand is expected to remain well-balanced. Thus, the prices continue to be anticipated to remain steady.
