The trend appears to be inconsistent still on the pigs-mature-for-slaughter market throughout Europe. In Spain, France and Italy, the prices went down by up to 8 cents. The trend is contrary in Sweden, where the quotation increased by 2 cents. The British corrected quotation also went up slightly. However, this price increase is attributed to the exchange rate changes again. All other quotations remained unchanged.
Over Easter, the number of days of slaughter was reduced. With demand and supply being well balanced, this does not impinge on the pig prices. Thus, the German, Dutch, Danish, Belgian and Austrian quotations remained on an unchanged level.
Trend: As a result of vivid demand, the still extensive quantities of pigs for slaughter can easily be placed on the market. Although the week of slaughter was reduced by one day with Easter Monday being a public holiday in Germany, the pig prices are expected to remain unchanged this week.
