The pigs-mature-for-slaughter market presents increasing prices again throughout Europe this week. The price increases range from plus 2 cents in Denmark to plus 5 cents in Belgium and the Netherlands. France as well reported noticeable price increases for the first time after weeks of hardly changed prices. In Sweden alone the prices remained unchanged. Great Britain was the only country to note down a price decrease. Yet, Great Britain continues to be top of the list as regards the European price structure.
From many places all over Europe, the pigs-mature-for-slaughter business is reported to be working out well. Slaughter weights are more or less declining in most of the countries. Supply is extensive indeed wherever you look, but then the quantities are absorbed well by the slaughter companies. The meat sales didn’t appear to be as good as they were expected on the domestic markets at the beginning of the month. In Austria, the slaughter companies complain about low-priced offers of meat coming in from Germany; these are slowing down the price rally there.
Trend: The quantities of pigs for slaughter on offer, which are quite extensive still, are nonetheless commercialised smoothly. Thus, the prices are expected to remain steady at least this week.
