EU pig prices: Prices continue to increase all over Europe – Annual peak in many countries
Contrary to the difficult market conditions usually observed in autumn, the atmosphere proves to be positive on the pigs-mature-for-slaughter market throughout Europe currently. Price increases more or less clear are recorded in almost all countries for this week. The most considerable price increase (+ 4 cents) was reported from Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. This way, Germany has almost closed ranks with Spain and Denmark, remaining just behind these two countries. In Spain, they were able to finally stop the past weeks’ slight but continuous price decrease. As a result of the latest price increases, the highest price level so far noted this year could be reached in many countries such as Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands. But new peak values are about to be reached also in Austria, France and Belgium.
It’s not only in Germany but almost everywhere throughout Europe that the meat sales are booming both on the domestic markets and in exports towards third countries. The atmosphere remains unclouded even despite the autumn holidays they had in some countries. Yet, the Austrians report on slight backlog supply resulting from two missing days of slaughter (public holidays), but nonetheless a 2 cents’ price increase could be enforced there.
Trend for the German market: According to the market participants’ assessment, little should change with regard to the positive market situation next week. The quantities on offer lag behind those offered previously and are thus courted actively by the slaughter companies. For this reason, the prices are expected to remain steady at least, if not to increase.
