This week, the long-awaited upward movement was finally achieved on the European pigs-mature-for-slaughter market. Sweden’s quotation alone was an exception. There, a plus of the corrected version could only be produced as a result of exchange rate changes.
Different degrees of the price increase were reported from the individual EU countries, giving 2.5 cents for Spain and up to 5 cents for France, Belgium and the Netherlands. In Germany, a 4-cents’ plus could be put through. Thus, the Dutch price increase exceptionally exceeded Germany’s increase by one cent. Usually, the Dutch and German quotations go up to the same extent. This kind of boom is attributed to the increasing demand for barbecue pork with the weather being so good at present. At the same time, the quantities of pigs for slaughter are slightly declining.
Trend: The quantities of pigs for slaughter on offer continues to be declining, and demand for pork is good still. Whether or not a further price increase may be pushed through next Friday remains to be seen over the week.
